Mesothelioma Diagnosis
A mesothelioma diagnosis does not occur
as often as it should because it is still an unrecognizable fatal
cancer form to many. Often times, a mesothelioma diagnosis
will be classified as something else due to the lack of awareness
and mesothelioma having similar symptoms as other conditions.
Even today, a mesothelioma diagnosis can be classified as lung
cancer, which is entirely different. Mesothelioma is more than
just a lung cancer and is not caused by the same factors as lung
cancer, such as smoking.
Since many people still are unaware that they have
been exposed to asbestos a mesothelioma diagnosis has a lesser
chance of being made because proper testing will not be sought.
More awareness about asbestos and mesothelioma has been made recently
due to the growing number of asbestos mesothelioma lawsuits however
even news reports will improperly attribute a person's death to
something other than a mesothelioma diagnosis. In order to receive
a mesothelioma diagnosis first a person's medical history, then
an x-ray of the chest and/or the abdomen must be taken, an MRI,
or a CAT or CT scan.
In some instances, a mesothelioma diagnosis will
be made after a thoracoscopy is made, which is a medical procedure
requiring anesthetics because of the incision made in the chest
wall. The doctor is able to look inside the chest cavity using
and then make a mesothelioma diagnosis if present. Sometimes by
performing a peritoneoscopy to look in the abdomen a doctor will
also be able to make a mesothelioma diagnosis.
