Mesothelioma Asbestos Exposure Cancer
Mesothelioma cancer has been tied to asbestos
exposure in a number of studies. The forms of mesothelioma
cancer include pleural mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma.
The different types of mesothelioma cancer are named based upon
where the cancer cells are found: pleural mesothelioma is the
form of mesothelioma cancer in the chest cavity, while peritoneal
cancer involves cancerous growths in the abdominal cavity lining.
Mesothelioma cancer patients' prognosis (medical
outlooks) depend to a large extent on when the diagnosis of mesothelioma
cancer took place; earlier identification improves the chances
for recovery. Both forms of mesothelioma cancer can be difficult
to identify, with vague symptoms, including fever and abdominal/chest
pains. Treatment of mesothelioma cancer can involve chemotherapy,
surgery, radiation, or any combination of those three. After diagnosis,
the mesothelioma cancer patient should thoroughly discuss all
treatment options with the doctor, and often mesothelioma cancer
treatment is a decision the patient shares with loved ones. The
course of treatment for mesothelioma cancer depends upon the size,
location, and extent of the cancer, as well as the mesothelioma
cancer patient's age, general health, and any medical conditions.
Because of the strong link between mesothelioma
cancer and asbestos exposure, some or all of the medical costs
for diagnosis and treatment of mesothelioma cancer may be the
liability of the patient's employer, or the party responsible
for asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma cancer victims and their loved
ones may also be legally entitled to other costs associated with
mesothelioma cancer, including lost wages, hardship, and punitive
damages.
